Katori Hall Instagram – @tinashekajesebolden, co-artistic director of @alliancetheatre has delivered one of the most tremendous Mountaintops that I’ve ever seen. Electric. Bold. Urgent. Now.
Her direction has breathed new life into a play first produced 15 years ago. I’m proud to call this woman a collaborator, a friend, and a sister in artivism.
And these actors @robdemery as King is a revelation and Jade Payton @jadeonagoodday as Camae a trip and a half! Two actors, one stage, 90 minutes of laughter, tears and promise…
My exploration of Dr. Martin Luther King is more man than myth, more fantasy than biography, more ordinary than extraordinary. As a then 26 year old when I first penned the play, I wrote with an irreverence that seemed downright disrespectful to some but true to my own artistic impulses. “Write like it’ll never be produced.” And so I did. Finding the ordinary in King made him even more extraordinary, and also allowed me to find the King in myself…
I pray that Atlanta audiences find him inside their hearts as his impact and sacrifices did truly change all of our lives for the better. Humans are capable. Then and now. Now and forever. The Promised Land is oh so close and so far away.
The @alliancetheatre production makes me say with great abandon I’ve truly been to THE MOUNTAINTOP. | Posted on 09/Sep/2024 06:29:04
