Marcella Lentz-Pope Instagram – For those that don’t know, my dad was the voice of Furby. The toy that was all the rage for Christmas of 1999. He voiced it in 6 different languages. And to me, an 11 year old, they were annoying in every single one. I remember radio stations calling the house at 5am to interview my dad and I would have to wake up to that high pitched voice. The photo is when Chuck Henry of channel 4 news came to the house for a segment on my dad. As you can see 1999 was not kind to me and I was not a cool child.
My dad died a few years later and never got to see how culturally significant to the 90’s Furby is now. The memes, the swag, blinged out in an @adamsandler movie! I think he’d get a real kick out of it. Last night, his grandson went dressed as Furby for his first Halloween. A costume my mom (his widow) made from scratch! I wish my dad was here to see it. I know he’d be proud. Just like I am so incredibly proud to be his daughter. The daughter of Furby.
I love you dad. And I miss you ever day.
