A new scam, called the Digital Arrest Scam, is targeting people across India, including well-educated individuals. Even PM Modi has warned about it!
Here’s how it works:
Fake Police Video Call: Scammers pretend to be police on video calls, saying you’re involved in a crime like money laundering.
Fake Court Sessions: They stage fake “court sessions” with actors as lawyers, CBI officers, and judges to make it look real.
Isolation Tactics: To scare victims, scammers tell them not to speak to anyone else or leave their home.
Money Demands: They trick people into sending money for “bail” or “court fees.” Recently, a neurologist lost over ₹2 crore this way!
In just 4 months, people in India have lost ₹120 crore to this scam.
How to Stay Safe:
Be Skeptical: Real police will never ask for money over a video call.
Verify: If you get a suspicious call, contact your local police directly.
