Richa Shukla Moorjani Instagram – I recently visited @luvinarms sanctuary, a partner of @worldanimalprotectionus , and I’m changed forever. Each and every animal I got to see and hold in my arms, like Diego the rooster who sweetly cuddled into my neck, reminded me once again of how similar they are to us and our pets. I desperately wish more people could spend even 1 minute with these precious beings to experience firsthand the transformative power of their innocence and emotional intelligence — and how they also feel the same level of pain, fear and grief as we do.

An image that will stay with me forever- There was a cow there named Devi (see slide number 5) who was rescued from a dairy farm with her baby Lakshmi, who tragically passed away from a fatal illness 1 week before my visit. My heart broke seeing Devi whose unmistakable grief over the loss of her baby was written all over her gentle face. And to think- It is the norm every single day for dairy cows to have their babies ripped away from them (and often killed) the moment they are born so that their milk can go to humans. Only to have that horrific process repeated again and again until their bodies give out and are eventually sent to be slaughtered. A mother is a mother. And no mother on planet earth deserves this cruel and exploitative treatment.

A common saying is that if every slaughterhouse or dairy farm was inside a glass house, virtually everyone on this planet would go plant-based. (I’m aware that we are no where close to this reality with our broken food system and the existence of places/cultures where animal agriculture may have historically been vital to survival.)

Everyday, my eyes are opened more and more to the injustice all around us, and the undeniable interconnectedness of it all. There can never be true collective liberation without animal liberation. Our treatment of animals (and the environmental impact of it all) is highly and often intentionally left out of the discourse when it comes to any form of social or climate justice, and this HAS to change.

Thank you Luvin’ Arms and World Animal Protection for your tireless work to protect animals and to plant seeds of compassion and Ahimsa everywhere. 🐷🫶🏽 | Posted on 10/Dec/2024 04:43:20
