Rutina Wesley Instagram – Wow. My heart is so full. Getting the chance to go back to my high school, The Las Vegas Academy, was fulfilling in so many ways. The students were vibrant, full of hope and light and engaged in ways that I didn’t think was possible. I had the chance to speak with them, to coach them and to really bask in all their glory. Sometimes you don’t realize how far you’ve come until you go back, to the beginning. I definitely was nervous because I did not think my story would be relevant to them for some reason but gosh, my story was exactly what they needed to hear. My perseverance, my determination to become all the things I’ve ever wanted to be. Bless their beautiful souls, I left there inspired and with a reminder of why I do what I do. I love it, I yearn for working on my craft, for the positivity it brings me when I’m doing what I love. Most importantly I got to see some familiar faces, most of which I haven’t seen since I graduated. Oh man it brought me right back to my time there and definitely, directly, to where I am now. I thank them for being dreamers, because anything is possible, especially if you dream big. If I were to tell little Ru that she’d be exactly where she wanted to be, I don’t think young me would have believed it was possible. But here we are, and here I stand proud and still going.
