Ustad Zakir Hussain was a legendary tabla virtuoso, composer, and cultural icon. The eldest son of Ustad Alla Rakha, he elevated the tabla to global prominence, earning recognition as one of the greatest percussionists of all time. His groundbreaking contributions to Indian classical and world music brought tradition and innovation together, captivating audiences worldwide.
Over his illustrious career, Zakir Hussain received numerous honours, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1990), Fellowship (2018), and the United States National Heritage Fellowship (1999). With seven Grammy nominations and four wins, including three in February 2024, his artistry transcended borders, cementing his legacy as a true ambassador of Indian music.
