The Blessed Madonna Instagram – Good morning. Some of you know, some of you don’t. It’s surgery day, or as we have been calling it Yeeterus Day. When I wake up later I will be one uterus lighter! Good fucking riddance!
I don’t want to be cloak and dagger about any of this. This is normal. This is ok. Lots of other DJs have been through this. That bit surprised me. We’re all friends here. So let’s talk turkey.
Bodies are extraordinary. And female bodies are extra weird/cool. Unlike most species we live a whole section of our lives after the time that we can make babies. The reasons why are uncertain, but what is certain is that as a species, post-fertile females have a powerful benefit to give the entire of humanity. And I’m about to enter the mystery and the power of this time in my life. I also want to say that being here this morning, waiting for a surgery that will change my body in an extraordinary way provokes feelings of deep love and solidarity with friends who have been here and that very much includes trans friends, so many of whom are waiting for this same surgery which will save their lives too. I do not see this as something that separates me from trans people. I see this experience as a point of empathy and love. Trans men have precisely the same surgery often. 🩷
This day came quite earlier than planned. But while I’m nervous as anyone would be, I’m grateful to be getting the best care on the planet. I’m gonna be absolutely fine. I am being treated better than I ever imagined as someone who grew up without health insurance. And I’m thinking very much of everyone who needs healthcare that they are not receiving. And I hope we can all be thinking about that and fighting to get the care for people who need it for any reason.
I do also very much wish I was at False Idols tonight with all my beloved @haaihaaihaai and the rest of the gang. I do very much wish I had been able to hang in a little longer to see you all.
But we are just getting started.
Send a thought to my brilliant mind surgeons who are looking after me today. And will see you all when I am awake and hopefully loopy as a rollercoaster and eating cheese in bed.
