I’ve been meaning to post about this powerful & tough, but so wonderfully, comprehensively written book, but this week has obviously pushed it to the front of my mind. 💚

72 people lost and so many lives destroyed by something which should never have happened. It’s been clear as day since it happened. It continues to be a stain on all the governments that came before the tragedy. There are so many lives still in limbo & a sense that politicians are hoping it/they will go away. 💚💚💚💚

Below are Peter’s words as to how the book came about which are better than anything I can write about it:

“Only five weeks previously, I’d published an article titled ‘A Stark Warning’. It was about the risk of a cladding fire in a high-rise block with a ‘stay put’ policy.
As I looked at the wreckage, I knew three things immediately. The people who had called the emergency services during the night would have been told to stay where they were. That, as a result, many of them were dead. And that this was a disaster which could have been prevented.
From that moment on, I wanted to make sure as many people as possible knew the truth: Grenfell didn’t have to happen. It was caused by decisions made by governments, corporations and councils – who all knew the risks….
Throughout the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, I reported on the shocking revelations about the callousness of the companies that let this happen and the negligence of successive governments who did nothing to stop them.” #justiceforgrenfell 💚 | Posted on 09/Sep/2024 00:05:24
