Damaris Lewis Instagram – Damaris Lewis stars as Babs Wingo. Born in Georgia and raised in Ohio, Babs and her sisters Ethyl & Marva trained tumbling, judo and gymnastics at their local YMCA. Discovered by Billy Wolfe after he took inspiration from Jackie Robinson, they quickly shot to the top of cards and drew some of the biggest gates of their time, even being top billed alongside the most famous male wrestlers of the era like Gorgeous George.
With the bulk of their careers occurring while Jim Crow laws were still in effect, the unique nature of the sisters’ success and prosperity during this era cannot be overstated, yet it remains a forgotten piece of American history.
