Emily Swallow Instagram – Along with many of you, I have been watching in shock as LA seems to be surrounded by flames that won’t back down. I am in Florida helping my mom move out of our family home and feeling helpless to save our Topanga home but I know I’m not the only one fighting for it thanks to all the efforts by firefighters, volunteers and friends. @chadkimball76 and @normajeanandarthurmiller have evacuated and are safe, and that’s the important thing. I’ve stayed glued to the news and various WhatsApp groups to know what’s happening, and here’s what has etched itself in my heart:
We are deeply indebted to firefighters, law enforcement, and everyone on the frontlines. They are putting their lives on the line to save ours.
We are a community that shows up for one another. I can’t tell you how many frightened posts I’ve seen about animals and people trapped, followed by a string of messages offering to go in and rescue and house them. #bootsontheground
Times like these are terrifying, and so many people are losing everything right now. But I am so encouraged by the clarity coming forward about what is really important and the unquestionable generosity and goodwill being shown to neighbors near and far. Thank you to everyone who won’t back down.
