Eva Amurri Martino Instagram – He’s Reading!!!! 📚🐛 It’s been such a joy to watch my littlest love discover the wonder of Literacy. When I was a child (and still to this day!) I used to lose myself in books and find such comfort amongst the pages of my favorite stories. It’s so fun to experience my own children falling in love with reading right in front of me 🥰
I wanted to share a little timeline of this because I was absolutely SHOCKED at how quickly Mateo picked this all up when we started playing a game made by @mrswordsmith_ . As background, my dear friend was an educator for many years and has joined this company in recent years to offer his expertise in all things childhood literacy. He sent us a gift of some of the products, and I figured I’d be mostly sharing them with Marlowe and Major (there are awesome books that encourage creative writing and expository writing, vocabulary support and lots for phonics, too- all with such fun characters and a great vibe) but I was super surprised when Mateo took to it! Slides explained below:
1. Since the summer Mateo had been identifying sounds with letters and also curious about spelling. Probably because we would always spell things out in front of him so he wouldn’t know what we were saying. 🤣 however, he hadn’t really expressed interest in learning to read, and when I would offer to teach him, he would say he didn’t want to. 😕
2. These are some of the Mrs. Wordsmith products that we were sent. I love the characters and the world of this tool so much. It kind of reminds me of a mix between SpongeBob,Ren and Stimpy, and Animaniacs.(but not inappropriate!) We love the blah blah blah game, and the word of the day. 🙌🏻
3. This is the first time we ever played this game. He immediately loved it. There are three levels within the game, and we started with the easiest one, obviously, which really seemed to be at the level of what he could grass grasp. But still a challenge. I sent a video to my friend to show him, because even within the 30 minutes we were playing he had improved so vastly that I was shocked.
4. He started asking to play every single morning.
