To welcome Ganesh ji for his 10 day sojourn:
“Ganpati Bappa”
Behold the elephant headed divinity
By default the one we pray to for any auspicious beginning
The one with whom we have the greatest affinity,
He who helps us overcome all obstacles,
One who blesses and protects us, is our saviour,
To him we pay obeisance on the holy days of Ganesh Chaturthi;
The ever popular, easily accessible Ganesh ji
Rides merrily on his chosen vehicle, the always active Mouse
Bringing in his wake all prosperity and plenty,
Ever welcomed heartily by every household,
Carried home in style in a joyous procession
Fed with myriad modaks and goodies
He is the cherished visitor for all of ten days;
That very strong advocate of family togetherness,
He who entrances families, indeed, the entire country,
An everlasting symbol as he is
Of deep reverence for his divine parents Shiv and Parvati,
They whom he worshipped with fervent devotion,
His infinite respect and esteem worthy of emulation;
Bappa’s blessed benevolence extends a solicitous hand to all,
No beginning is auspicious without an invocation
To this charming, seraphic God of joy and fulfilment,
Whose annual visit to every house calls for ten days of celebration;
The finale sees him leave happy and well fed,
Blessing the families for all their love and respect
With a fond promise to return the next year,
Prompting the beautiful, fervent chant
Ganpati Bappa Morya!
