During her recent visit, JGI USA Executive Director Anna Rathmann joined JGI-Uganda’s Executive Director James Byamukama, and Vice President of Africa Programs Alice Macharia to witness firsthand the remarkable conservation efforts unfolding across the country through the work of JGI Uganda. From collaborating with partners to better understand and protect wild chimpanzee populations in the iconic Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park to restoring vital habitats through reforestation projects, every JGI Uganda initiative reflects a deep commitment to safeguarding Uganda’s natural heritage. 🌱✨
They met with park officials working tirelessly to protect Uganda’s remarkable biodiversity (including the amazing opportunity to go gorilla trekking in Bwindi), visited reforestation sites where geo-tagged saplings are carefully monitored, and connected with students from the Roots & Shoots program—a youth-led movement now empowering over 10,000 young changemakers across Uganda.
As Dr. Jane Goodall reminds us, “Every individual matters, every individual has a role to play, and every individual makes a difference.” In Uganda, that difference is seen in every tree planted, every habitat restored, and every young person inspired to build a better future. 💚🌿
