“At Gombe, it’s not uncommon to come across scenes like this—two chimps quietly grooming in the lush valleys of the park. Here, Eliza is grooming Ferdinand, the alpha male at the time. I always wonder, what is Ferdinand staring at? Does he have a cut, or maybe an insect caught his eye? Chimps, just like us, are curious and attentive to their bodies.”
