I haven’t taken a break from Fresh Kills in almost 5 years for many reasons. The toll it’s taken on my life, mentally, physically, monetarily has been drastic. The endless zooms, pushing, explaining, asking for permission, writing, editing, marketing, organizing, plotting, planning, explaining, not to mention the fearing of “what did I do” “Will this work” has been a lot- to say the least. In this country we are as good as what we produce. “Girl Boss” or “hustle culture” all designed to put money in the pockets of the ones that hold all the keys by making you feel like you’re never enough. Pushed you to keep running for the carrot in the stick that stays just out of reach. Then even when you do the thing and it’s good- still not enough. It’s designed that way on purpose. They say you see who you really r when you’re pushed to the mat. Well I’ve seen me- up close and in dark dark spots- and you know what- I’m good. Im very proud of not giving up and still won’t because I KNOW my value and what I’ve done. That’s becuz of YOU all too. I am beyond grateful to those, especially @jespervesterstroem for allowing me the space and the trust to go down this road with Fresh Kills.
Which is why getting away now to just WALK- walk through lives, places, cultures, streets, of others really reminds you of what’s most important again- LIFE. The beauty out there is endless. The trees, the sky, the people, the love of food and art all makes it worth it- this thing called living.
