Jennifer Esposito Instagram – Just want to say a HUGE congrats to my “daughters” @odessaazion and @emily_bader with 2 HUGE roles up next! When I cast them I was told by many “you need stars instead.” I knew I needed ACTORS- the RIGHT actors- to do the intense heavy lifting that Fresh Kills demanded. Then when trying to get distribution (took a year) I also heard, “if only you had stars in your film- no one will care if you don’t.” The work these two amazing young women did in Fresh Kills should have been enough. Sadly, that’s not the case. I’m thrilled for them that their TALENT has moved them ahead. I wish Fresh Kills would have been given a little more respect that the “stars” were right there all along- hidden under great WORK!!!!
Sad that so many indie films get lost in this maze of celebrity insanity. If I had a small part in helping these two rise by giving them a platform to shine- then I’m thrilled. I started writing Fresh Kills many many MANY years ago for myself- a young actress who deeply desired better, well formed, multi-layered characters. I’m glad I could see these roles come to fruition if not for myself at that age but for two extraordinary young women. Sometimes it’s all about doing what you wish someone could have done for you.
