Did you know? There are several physical & behavioral traits that distinguish the Sumatran rhinoceros from other rhino species, which prevent them from doing certain things, such as:
🌿 Eating grass like African white rhinos 🌿
Sumatran rhinos are browsers, meaning they feed on leaves, twigs, & fruits instead of grass.
🫧 Skipping wallowing 🫧
Sumatran rhinos spend about 1/3 of their day wallowing. If they don’t wallow for three days, their skin can crack.
🦏 Living in groups 🦏
Sumatran rhinos are solitary animals, so they cannot live in groups.
🔕 Being in noisy environments 🔕
Sumatran rhinos have highly sensitive hearing & smell, making them disturbed by unfamiliar noises in their habitat.
☀️ Exposure to UV rays ☀️
Their eyes are extremely sensitive, especially to UV light.
