Kandi Burruss Instagram – E40, T Pain & Kandi • U & Dat • 2006
In the mid 2000s, Hip Hop was the biggest genre in music, and the success of Hip Hop was being catapulted by Atlanta, and the Crunk Music era had a LOT to do with that, and Lil Jon was at the forefront of that.
Lil Jon had previously worked with E40 on the hit Snap Yo Fingers, and produced the lead single off his My Ghetto Report Card album “Tell Me When To Go”, so when the next single from the album was another Jon produced track, it was immediately a go, but this song was a little different, although in the same vein of the previous single sound wise, this song featured a catchy memorable and now classic hook from T Pain, who after this would go on to be The Hook Man of the Century.
The song also featured Kandi, who had previously worked with Jon on Trillville’s Eat It Up, and was recording under the name Kandi Girl, That’s who was on them PeachCandy records 😂. I truly feel like this song would’ve been a hit all on its own with just 40, but adding T Pain and Kandi was a God send, it became perfect after that.
I always laugh because this song will go sorta viral every few months because people are always “just finding out that’s Kandi on the song” and I never know what throws them off, is it the name or what because It sounds just like her and If you’ve ever seen the video then you know, She and I have even laughed about the running gag of people finding out that’s her on this song every few months.
This is one of those records that sounds good anytime and everytime you hear it, no matter how long you go without hearing it too, it always hits just like the first time, reminds you of the summer of 2006! E40 was a legend prior to this, but being able to stay relevant for over 10 years at that point, Kandi as well, It said a lot because this was one of the hottest songs of that year, if not the hottest, honestly.
Happy New Year everyone! 2025 let’s go!
