Leher Khan Instagram – Eight years have gone past, Parched remains increasingly relevant . The very fact that it remains relevant makes one feel hopeless and hopeful at the same time . Writing this post in a time when a female doctor was killed while she was at her job or five year old girls studying in a school in Badlapur are sexually harassed, each passing day we are moving backwards as a species by denying basic rights to our fellow species, we are still immersed in gender inequality in our day to day lives, thus Parched still retains its relevance . But at the same time, I feel relieved and hopeful that there are filmmakers like Leena Yadav who dares to make a films like Parched in a film industry immersed in promoting gender stereotypes and rape culture for decades.
Parched isn’t just a film , it’s a language of protest and outrage and ‘no’ in the face of an industry which has been injecting the poison to a large section of an uneducated/educated society and normalised the ‘wrong’ till the point we can’t even register it. Also, I am thankful to Leena Yadav and her incredible team of actors and technicians for creating a rare work atmosphere. Playing ‘Gulab’ helped me identify the virus of Patriarchy within myself which i consciously and unconsciously failed to recognise and I’m still struggling to eradicate , but, playing Gulab in Parched helped me rectify the ‘root’ of the problem within myself , promoted me to embark in a journey as an actor and human being, realising the impact of the cognitive coexistence of both can only create sensible art !
Thank you Subhash K Jha for this . (read the full article in the story)
