Maria Doyle Kennedy Instagram – Absolutely honoured to be part of the BRIGID 2025 , spirit of Kildare festival . The whole festival runs from Jan 24-Feb 3 and there are events happening in towns and villages all over Kildare. The night I’m particular to is Jan 31st in the Moat Theatre, Naas featuring a STELLAR crew of magnificent women including our First Lady Sabina Higgins for whom I have the most enormous respect. I first fell in love with Brigid (Naomi Bríd) when I was 8, we moved from Enniscorthy to Dublin and I was send to the nearest school which turned out to be Scoil Bhríde . It was a revelation in many ways, especially igniting my grá of Gaeilge , but also encouraging a mystery and allure around Bríd, part magic part devotion. We always had a little party at school around her feast day and were given TWO cakes (TWO!) which came from Gerard’s bakery on The Triangle…… (an apple fritter and a meringue ) ……so I fell in love with her for the sugary deliciousness and I stayed for the stories of magnificent cloaks, female bishops and the promise of sunshine every second day #Spring .
I’m so looking forward to hanging out with this shower of Beauts and the spirit of the Saintly Goddess herself
