Marla Maples Instagram – Family, friends, and members of the administration gathered on a beautiful sunny day to celebrate the Inauguration with prayer and gratefulness. It’s been a tradition since 1933 to gather at The Washington National Cathedral to reflect hope for the upcoming administration. Pastor Paula White and I shared a hopeful message before the first family arrived, which included my daughter, her siblings and President Trump’s grandchildren.
You can only imagine how we all felt the moment Bishop Marian Budde, began to speak. Her remarks shifted the atmosphere, as what “may” have been intended as thoughtful critique, came across as harsh and misinformed, casting a shadow over the occasion and diminishing the intended spirit of unity.
It was disheartening to see the focus diverted from this moment of togetherness. Following the service, I was eager to engage in an honest conversation with Bishop Budde in hopes of fostering unity but she was no where to be found.
Instead, I left a message with the church leaders hoping they would convey my desire for an open and honest dialogue moving forward.
