Meesha Shafi Instagram – Papa, forever our inspiration 🫶🏼 @sabahamid_21
This year is the centennial #100th birthday, of my nana, the late, great Hameed Akhtar. An icon of literature, journalism and a relentless humanitarian, giving voice to the rights of the underprivileged, resisting dictatorship and oppression, at great cost to his own safety. Anyone interested in freedom of expression, progressive thinking/writing, human rights, should consider his book and columns essential reading.
One of them was ‘Kaal Kothri,’ his memoirs about his time spent in solitary confinement as a political prisoner.
Thank you to #VSAAL Voice of South Asian Art and Literature for honoring his legacy and celebrating his birthday on such a big scale in London this weekend.
Thank you for inviting his children and celebrating our Papa with us. This is a very emotional day for my family. You can see the guest of honor, my mother @sabahamid_21 getting teary eyed singing Happy Birthday to Papa.
He was the man who raised me. I miss him so much ♥️
