Mira Sethi Instagram – Some takeaways from the last three weeks:
1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger gulf between public opinion and the narrative of Western power elites in my lifetime
2. The Muslim world needs to take a long hard critical look at the nonexistent utopia of “the Muslim ummah” that is doing nothing, or not much, as Palestinians get slaughtered. Interests dominate.
3. Americans who talk about human rights and “democracy” and have stayed silent during this genocide are going to be treated as hypocrites going forward. Social media has taken an axe to information monopolies everywhere. We have seen butchered, maimed children being pulled from under the rubble and there is no unseeing those images.
4. To my Pakistani friends: I am very proud of you. I have seen you at the protests and heard your voices. But pause for a moment and think about your own country. 1sr@el is a religious ethnostate, and displaying all the symptoms of being one: paranoia, a soft corner for violence, and a kind of demented self righteousness that is the outward denial of an inner fear (that the Palestinians are right). But do you have a sense of the institutionalised hate in your own backyard? There is a lot—against religious and gender minorities, women, against anyone who doesn’t conform to the dangerously majoritarian mindset gripping this country of 240 million people. Please introspect.
