Heyyy loves,it’s been a while since my last update.❤️I have completed a few milestones in my cancer fighting journey in the last 2 months🎉I finished my 10 weeks radiation and chemo in patient treatments at @uchicago,and ring the victory bells with my treatment team and friends family by my side! ❤️And as I thought the toughest part of cancer has passed…I experienced the hardest / worst days of my life during recovery. 2 weeks after the treatment was when the Radiation chemo took full effect on my body. My neck, lips and jawline were covered with blisters from the radiation, my tongue and throat were peeling & bleeding all the time.🩸I couldn’t sleep through the night, was waking up every 2 hours coughing up blood and mucus.🙃My days were filled with clean and rinse my mouth, clean and change dressing on my neck, self inject pain meds every 3 hours, tube feed nutritional shakes and water. 💥My pain finally got better 3 weeks ago.💧The first sip of water was glorious, it was still super painful, but after 3 months of not being able to swallow anything, it was a small win! ❤️I have since learned to drink smoothies, had soups, ice cream and egg custard, my taste buds are coming back, I can taste 50% of sweet and savory and all the warm spices. 🙃Little hiccup, got an emergency surgery to replace GTube. ✌️Since I have been feeling better, I got to enjoyed Chicago a little bit, trips to museums and a play.❄️🐶I even played in the snow with Baxter.💥 As I am getting ready to go back home for the holidays, I can’t thank my team @uchicago , Dr Vokes and Dr Juloori enough for treating and taking great care of me.🙌 My friends and family who visited and texted and checked on me. 🙏Everyone’s prayer, donations, gifts and love, warmed my soul, pushed me forward on this tough road of cancer recovery. I appreciate YOU ❤️. Next step, come back to Chicago in January for my final checkup. I GOT this 💪 #tonguecancer #fuckcancer #cancerwarrior #chefshirleychung #dumplingmafiaqueen

Hey Loves 💕 Hello from Chicago! Thank you all so so much for the out pouring love and support since my announcement, your love helped carried me through the hardest and the most painful weeks of my life. ❤️ I have completed 2 weeks of radiation and chemo treatment at @uchicago, I can’t thank my doctors and nurses enough for taking good care of me. My mouth, tongue and throat are peeling because of radiation, so after 1 week of treatment, my pain was so bad that drinking water felt like pouring salt on my raw flesh, so I chose to install Gtube, feeding tube on my stomach, so I can get all the nutrients and meds through it, without torturing my mouth. It was a hard decision to be make, but I felt so blessed that my doctor push me to do it. I was losing weight too rapidly,10 pounds in 10 days. I ended up stay in the hospital for 2 weeks for the surgery, also figure out the best solution for my pain control. With my new shining weapon G-Tube, I am feeling much stronger and have been able to maintain my weight this check up! 💕 Having tongue cancer, even though I am surrounded by so much love, but I can still feel lonely, because no one can imagine the pain and not be able to talk and even drink water. I definitely had some of the darkest days of my life. 💕 But I met a new friend! Aubryn, my cancer warrior sister when we were in the waiting room for radiation ☢️ We bounded over our love of fashion ( we were the only 2 girls continued to dress up and put on makeup for our appointments) and Love of Food! She is one week ahead of me on treatments, so her experience gave me a sense of clarity, and she is tougher than me! Handling all the pain with such grace. We text each other everyday, she even checks on me when we are having the off week at home. We exchange list of food that we crave and wanna go eat after we are healed, and promised to cook for each other after we kick cancer’s ass. I am so grateful to have met my cancer warrior sister here and I know our friendship will continue long after we are healed❤️👯♀️. #chefshirleychung #dumplingmafiaqueen #unicorn #cancerwarrior #tonguecancer #fuckcancer

One last time, putting on my Dumpling apron in @mschicafe kitchen ❤️💪Our hearts are full as we say goodbye (for now!) while I take the time to rest and recover. To our staff, our regulars, our Goldbelly customers, and our Culver City neighborhood, thank you for supporting us over the past six years. The overwhelming love you’ve shown us in these final weeks means more than words can express. Our last day of service was truly beautiful, filled with so much love. We are especially grateful to our incredible team—many of whom have been with us since day one. In these last two weeks, you’ve worked tirelessly, showing up every day, exhausted but driven, working with all your heart to keep us serving our community. You are the heart of Ms Chi. To everyone we couldn’t include in this caption (you know who you are!), from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you. We couldn’t have done it without all of you. With endless love and gratitude ❤️❤️❤️ Chef Shirley, Jimmy, and the Ms Chi Team. #mschi #culvercity #chefshirleychung #dumplingmafiaqueen #fuckcancer

Saturday we celebrated a birthday, but perhaps more importantly we welcomed the Dumpling Queen herself, aka @chfshirleychung back to LA after 4 intense months of treatment in Chicago. It was a heartwarming evening with lots of hugs and smiles, and although I’m sure it was exhausting for her, it meant the world to be able to spend time with her and you better believe I still recognized that spark inside of her ✨ On the menu were all comforting (and soft) foods like matzoh ball soup, congee, and @astrea_caviar and uni because well, it’s still us after all and you know @andywangnyla was gonna come correct 😂 I made almond jello, @chefsherryyard made hot chocolate and @cheffalkner made a gorgeous ube cheesecake 🎂 Happy birthday Shirley! We ♥️ you!
