Asking for consent for them will be like pulling teeth, whether they are nice about it or not. You will always have to learn to navigate around people like this with an agenda if you want to truly live an authentic creative life.
◦ Reading people’s facial expressions and body language will tell you more about a business partner’s intentions than anything they say. You know when you get that strained smile? They can’t hide that they don’t relate to you. You know when their eyes look like a cat looking at a mouse, they can’t hide how excited they are to use you. You can see in someone’s face an authentic will to be collaborative.
◦ No one in the music industry knows anything about the voice or voice care. Voice care is like racism, everyone is in denial that they need to learn about it. Every expectation is almost perfectly designed to make sure you never work again, and no one is ever going to think to educate themselves on the voice of their own volition. It’s not like it’s pertinent to their jobs too? 🙄 Like racism you’ll have to do the labour of teaching them and like racism there is no guarantee the lessons will stick because like racism they benefit too much for your subjugation to change. And like with racism everyone thinks they’re the one that doesn’t do this. If you look at the election results and add the people looking to dodge accountability by wearing a blue bracelet, that’s a high volume of people not doing the work- you think they’re willing to do the work for your voice?
