While most travelers flock to the touristy spots in Bali, I decided to venture off the beaten path and explore the wonders of this volcanic gem and it was soooo worth it!
I was in awe of the views here! It’s an active volcano on the east side of Java. Despite its last eruption in 1999, it continues to emit plumes of smoke and gas daily.
If in case you do plan to visit here, here are some TIPS:
👉 A hike to the lip of Ijen’s crater takes between 1-2 hours depending on fitness level.
👉 Essential gear like headlamps, gas masks, and proper hiking shoes are a must. Gas masks are available for rent, ensuring a safe exploration of the crater.
👉 Begin your trek early in the morning. Most hikes to the lip of Ijen’s crater start around 3am to reach the summit before sunrise.
👉 If you have asthma or any health problems that inhibit breathing or mobility, I suggest skipping the blue flames.
