Amrita Puri Instagram – This photograph is from my last day in Edinburgh when I scheduled an impromptu ear piercing and had to make a dash to buy an extra large suitcase for all my stuff. I have zero concept of space and am only capable of last minute packing (big surprise)! Turns out that the ear piercing studio was on the very same cobbled street I had stayed in when I first came to Edinburgh. Life really does come full circle.
Leaving Mumbai was more than a geographical move. It was a leap away from family and familiar chaos into Edinburgh’s quiet embrace. Cafés close at 4pm and the streets are empty by 9 pm —a world apart from my hometown’s perpetual energy. I remember I had texted a friend of mine when I felt really lonely and seriously questioned my decision to do my masters in Edinburgh. Was this move a big mistake? Trying to comfort me she had said: “Puri, when the time comes to leave Edinburgh, you’ll be crying because of the incredible memories you’ll have created.” She was right!
What began with anxiety transformed into a journey of profound personal growth. “Do the things that scare you most”. There’s so much to gain from pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.This past year and a half has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I am returning to home with some seriously overstuffed suitcases 🧳 and a heart full of gratitude. You shall always be home for me 30 Howe street.
