Ana Navarro Instagram – You know I’m always talking about the need to find balance between tuning-in to what is happening in our country, and tuning-out and finding tranquility and joy. For me, that often comes with spending time with friends and doing things I love. Last night, I got to do both.
My friends, @vegalteno and @lin_manuel and @johnleguizamo are among the producers if a fabulous new show coming to Broadway, about the Buena Vista Social Club and their lead singer, Omara Portuondo. @buenavistamusical was simply fabulous. It was nice to see Cuban classics portrayed on Broadway – El Cuarto de Tula, La Negra Tomasa, Lagrimas Negras, Dos Gardenias…. I was transported to 1950’s Cuba and sang-along with every song.
There was a line in the play that as a Miamian, married to a Cuban exile, I found so poignant: “In this country (Cuba), there used to be all sorts of people. Rich, poor. Blacks, whites. Doctors, lawyers, housewives. Now we’ve been reduced to two types of people – those who left and those who stayed.”
It premiers March 19th. Run! Don’t walk to go watch it. | Posted on 26/Feb/2025 21:25:00
