The itinerary I would suggest for winters;

Day 1: Land in Srinagar, do Dal Lake and a cafe (loved Chai Jaai)
Day 2: Head for Gulmarg, change cabs there as only union works. You can either do ATV or direct cab for Drung Waterfall, then head for Gondola and few other points, it’s a package of all but other points are skippable
Day 3: Head to Pahalgam, you can either rest or do Baisaran Valley which can only be visited via a horse, but again was skippable.
Day 4: Do ABC Valley, loved Betaab especially and then head back either to Srinagar or can add a day for Sonmarg. We didn’t do Sonmarg, it’s a little far.
Day 5/6: From Srinagar go to Doodh Patri, again have to take horse or ATV there but the route via horse was absolutely beautiful and much better than Baisaran in Pahalgam. Back to Srinagar and can experience a house boat stay for a day
Day 7/8: Enjoy the houseboat stay and depart next day.

Some points to remember:

1. Bargain a lot, they start with 3x, 4x the prices and the drivers all get commission so they will take you to their gates and drivers both for house boat and Gulmarg Cabs. Dal lake can be between 1500-2000 max and Gulmarg Cab 4000 max.
2. If you have proper winter Shoes and jackets from Decathalon, you don’t need to rent the boots and jackets there which they will push you to.
3. Gulmarg Gondola ride needs to be booked months in advance, Phase 2 has less oxygen so avoid doing that with kids or elders. Phase 2 is on a height and gets more sunlight, so even less snow at times. Don’t buy Phase 2 there in black, the people there will be very very pushy.
4. Pahalgam ABC Valley and Baisaran Valley horses have fixed union prices, the person at your hotel can call them for you.
5. For horses at Doodh Patri, again bargain a lot.

Overall you have to bargain everywhere except Pahalgam which has fixed prices, and don’t buy dry fruits and kesar from the store your driver takes you to, and not even pashmina.

For good quality dry fruits and kesar at amazing prices, goto Kalwal Enterprises in Maharaja Bazaar in Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
