Charlotte Day Wilson Instagram – @jackrochon and I recorded this album basically entirely in one room in LA in the span of a couple months. We didn’t have a dedicated “engineer” but as it turns out we engineered it ourselves to a standard that earned us this Grammy nomination.

Many songs started as iPhone demos that I’d recorded over the years that Jack would sample & build upon. The key ingredient to our process wasn’t fancy equipment, it was FUN, musicality & good sonic sensibility. As two over-thinkers we challenged ourselves to capture the moment’s idea as quickly as possible & not overthink whatever audio we got. Jack made this process possible through his incredibly quick & tasteful workflow as a gifted multi-instrumentalist-producer-engineer. Each instrument in the room was patched up & always ready to record. We DID NOT USE ANY MIDI INSTRUMENTS. One upright piano, one bass, couple guitars, a mellotron, a prophet, one vocal mic, one vocal chain & ableton. In a landscape where our computers make it possible to audition 8 million different sounds before deciding on one, we decided to embrace limitations, stay in the physical realm as much as possible & create cohesion from song to song by using a few choice instruments, all recorded in the same room.

We worked with @jackemblem on mixing because he cared about getting the best mixes as much as we did. Key word – CARED. He mixed this album in his condo & allowed us to experiment in the mixing phase, rather than rushing us. Although we didn’t win the trophy I thought it’d still be nice to share these details with those who care to read this far about audio & ily for it. We had fun making this record and I think you can hear it. ❤️ | Posted on 04/Feb/2025 10:14:12
