Nandita Das Instagram – The Faiz Festival 2025
A bustling festive atmosphere, brimming with lovers and practitioners of art, music, literature and more. Faiz’s ghazals filled the air, in the voices of legends like, Iqbal Bano, Noorjahan and Nayyara Noor. Many book stalls (I’m back with a pile of books!), a ‘Faiz Ghar’ that traces his life and couplets adorn the walls. Drum concert in the open air, parallel sessions on a gamut of subjects. Everyone was hall hopping, enthralled with session after session.
I had two – a conversation with Faiz’s daughter, Moneeza Hashmi about my journey thus far and the other, on Manto, with Sarmad Khoosat, who made another Manto in Pakistan. Both took me back in time and reaffirmed my beliefs in what I have chosen to do.
Listened to new and legendary voices that shared candidly. A festival to remember. Sharing this with the song from Manto and words of Faiz! Glad I could bring them together again!
