Sara Lazzaro Instagram – 2024 : you were a lot.
At times too much.
Felt like I spent the year putting pieces back together and I am still in the process. Laughed, cried. I was deceived, and re-found. Said goodbye to presences that didn’t serve me, others decided to disappear on their own. The rooms are less crowded, but I spend more time looking in the eyes of those who remained- most before couldn’t hold the gaze. Phases. I discovered a strength I didn’t think I’d have while running on empty.
Lessons upon lessons.
A difficult year in regards to Humanity. The lack of empathy, love and understanding towards one another. The treacherous constant suffering, streaming before our eyes days on end, bystanders to the constant persevering crimes against humanity. A daily battle to be strong, hopeful, and not to be sick and disheartened.
The greed of our governments, who don’t care about people, the environment collapsing and earth warning us intensely, a far right ascending in power worldwide, as it does cyclically, as history always teaches us but we cyclically fail to learn. We never really do, do we?
Women’s rights suppressed globally over and over again, feminicides, male politicians deciding over our body… and yes, It goes on.
The picture is not that great. Let’s be honest.
It hasn’t been, really, for a while now.
But there has been some light, yes. There always is, creeping out from the most unassuming cracks. Everywhere: in a sunset or In feeling a sense of common belonging in the eyes of a stranger.
And I hold it dearly and defend it with my nails and teeth. It flashed routes of hope in deep darkness, like a lighthouse.
It kept me moving, it keeps us moving forward.
Hope is a mission. Love is a mission.
Let peace, respect, hope and understanding guide us this new year. Let’s be more human, in its most powerful and grounded meaning.
2025, I do hope you will be kinder and softer.
But , yes, it will also depend on us.
