Sarah Gilman Instagram – what is already a tragic and traumatic situation can be aggravated by the randomness and positioning of content on social media. this is just me asking you to consider if your relationship with social media apps is helping or hurting right now. this doesn’t mean you need to cut them off cold turkey — they can be a wonderful way to check in on friends and loved ones and to find resources and safety information. I just suggest that you intentionally design your experience on them right now so that you’re seeing information you’re emotionally prepared to handle and you’re setting yourself up for the best personal care that you can in these incredibly trying times.

I know for me personally right now I’ve muted or unfollowed news sites so that I can stay up to date with people and organizations like @redcrossla and @lacountyfd that are providing important information. for news, I’m specifically visiting news sites or apps where I can intentionally engage with current events when I’m mentally and emotionally prepared to do so.

sending love to everyone else affected by the LA fires — here and afar. I truly believe it will be community and connection that get us through this time in the days and months to come.

and please send resources—I’m happy to share them all. they’re also housed on the 🔥 resources highlight on my page.
