As many of you know, Los Angeles was hit with multiple wildfires in the past three days. To say I’m devastated is an understatement. LA has been my home for the past 7 years. To see it in this condition is something that is very hard to process. Nonetheless, I am so so fortunate that my residence has so far been spared in this tragedy, and that my family and I have kept safe despite the chaos. For many however, this is not the reality. Many families, seniors, students, and wildlife have all lost their homes. Some have assumed that only “rich” people with insurance policies are effected by this disaster, but that isn’t the case. Instead of promoting division and having bitterness in your heart, we should come together to support one another and find peace in the midst of this loss. What I find most appalling about these fires is that it was so preventable. Taking the condition of our environment seriously, and investing in proper preventative measures would have significantly reduced the impact these fires have had on thousands of LA residents. My heart breaks for those losing their homes, possessions, pets, and even loved ones. Material goods can be replaced, but the memories and relationships we carry in life can not.
