Susan Wokoma Instagram – Right. I’ve finished whanging on about Cheaters and as we step into the final month of 2024 I think everyone in TV & Film can agree that it’s been a WEIRD ONE at best and brutal for many at its gnarliest. That’s why I’ve put my whole fanny into shouting about Cheaters cos it’s honestly been one of the biggest creative joys of my career and in the darkness we have to celebrate the little pockets of light. (Thank you @ddapersonalpublicity xxx)
I’m almost certainly going to edit this caption in a week to a one sentence joke cos talking honestly on the internet is something I feel less and less compelled to participate in (thanks Musk) but thank you for watching the show if you’ve caught it. It’ll be waiting for you patiently on @bbciplayer if you haven’t, but do keep watching British TV and Film. There’s always room for the big fancy loud stuff (which I love) but I’m being deadly serious when I say we are haemorrhaging low/mid budget work and debuts. We are losing talent – especially working class talent – fast.
My Christmas wish for 2025 onwards (cos I’m a baby) is that gatekeepers stop making the overwhelming majority of their decisions out of fear. I know there’s smaller budgets and no money but unless you want to just go into reality tv, fear led art is booooooooorring. It’s stagnant. It won’t generate the £££ you think it will and audiences can see right through that shit, ok hun?!
Congrats to everyone who managed to “survive to 2025” I guess. And yes, survival and endurance is paramount – but I think we all would like to get on with a bit more creating and living innit.
