Uzma Hassan Instagram – Before I started my career as an actor, almost 14 years ago, I remember going through very trying times. My family went through a very rough patch, not only emotionally, but monetarily aswell. My mom used to give me a daily allowance, which was hardly sufficient to make ends meet.
I remember passing by McDonald’s, and wanting to buy myself a meal, but resisting the urge, because my pocket didn’t allow it. The life of luxury and comfort I had, the kind I was accustomed to, was long gone.I had hit rock bottom. Not only did I lose my assets, I lost friends. I lost social standing and respect, in the eyes of people who clearly gauged someone’s worth by their bank balance.
To say it was a struggle, would be putting it mildly. Not only to make a name for myself, but to gain back my self esteem, my confidence, and to do it all with dignity. Trying to hold my ground and keep the faith, while the world mocked me and told me I’d never make it, that I wasn’t the youngest or the prettiest and trying to survive in an industry that sells youth and glamour.
After 13 years of barely holding on, not only did I feature in a McDonald’s tvc, I did so opposite the biggest film star of this country! The billboard was my first ever! And every time I see this clip, it brings me hope.
So, this little window into what I’ve lived through, is for one purpose, and that is to remind people, the underdogs, the ones struggling, the misfits, the square pegs in the round holes, to keep the faith and NEVER, EVER give up! Dont let anyone tell you who you are or what you can or cannot do. There will be a million people waiting with bated breath for you to fall down, to give up..don’t give them the satisfaction! Believe and rise.
