Rest in peace, Roberta Flack. The legendary musician has died at the age of 88.
Born in North Carolina and raised in Virginia, Flack was a classically trained pianist who attended Howard University before rising to fame in the ‘70s with hits like “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” and “Feel Like Makin’ Love.” Known for her rich, emotive voice, Flack helped define the “quiet storm” subgenre of R&B, earning multiple Grammy Awards and inspiring generations of artists.
“We are heartbroken that the glorious Roberta Flack passed away this morning,“ her publicists said in a statement. “She died peacefully surrounded by her family. Roberta broke boundaries and records. She was also a proud educator.”
