We're taught to recite jana-gana-mana & vande maataram from a very young age as a symbol of respect for our motherland but do we really mean it? do we really feel proud to be Indians when distressing news of heinous crimes, poverty and natural disasters consume our minds for a while..?

I want to take this opportunity to express how proud I am of my country which is constantly developing. I'm optimistic for a brighter future but for that we NEED to be honest with each other. Posting a story with 🇮🇳 on 15th August & 26th January won't cut it. So here are my expectations of how a TRULY independent country should feel like for me & how I need to be a responsible citizen as well-
• Women Safety - as an Indian woman I wish to feel free and safe in my own homeland and the recent Kolkata news has shook me to my very core. We NEED stricter actions.
• Employment Opportunities- i've always said that every woman ( or person ) must be financially independent and for that we will need the right education & skill set that prepares us for various jobs.

What do I do as a responsible citizen to contribute?
• Know my rights, educate myself and others around me, especially the men in my life to respect women not because they're your mom or sister. But because they're humans who deserve basic respect, safety, protection and support. It's the men of our generation that can bridge this gap of gender inequality.
• If you're someone with a roof over your head, internet connection and 3 meals per day then consider yourself privileged because many Indians do not have what you have. What can you and I do? Take responsibility of 1 person other than your family, for me it's my house helper/worker's children who are extremely dear to me and I fund their education every year.

There's a lot to be done but there's a lot we can do too 🤍 Proud to be an Indian but will be even prouder if we all took charge of whatever we can contribute in our respective capacity each day and hope for a better 79th year🇮🇳

Aditi Shrestha - 648.9K Likes - Someone recently shared a very important point of view that made me see myself in a completely different light- which is to talk to my younger self whenever i feel unworthy, insecure or have self doubts. This month brought all of it.
When I started my channel in 2016, I was a girl full of fire, dreams & almost a desperation to feel a sense of accomplishment. I did not come from generational wealth, I didn't have any resources, contacts, investment money or someone to look up to who looked like me, talked like me, had a financial background like me.
I will always remember this one time where i tried giving my room a 'pinteresty' look for a video & and was met by so much trolling for it being "low standard, cluttered or not cool enough" made me feel so small & helpless in a million ways. I still remember saving around ₹1500 and ordering 4 sheets of white brick wall stickers from amazon. It was the best 1.5k i had ever spent.
Last year I won an award, hit 1 million subscribers, bought my dream house, built a safe space and yet i felt unworthy. Did i work for it or did i just get lucky? aah the self doubt rabbit hole.

So last night I tried talking to my younger self, the 2016 Aditi who made the most of every cloth fabric as her BG, who used a single eyeshadow palette to do her blush, contour, highlight & brows, who made shopping at sarojini nagar her whole identity because that is all she could afford, who somehow in her twisted brain thought that making videos will change her life. So I thanked her for doing exactly that- changing my life. Aditi, they were wrong, we made it, we have a roof over our heads now and mummy papa are proud, ravi is enjoying, everyone knows you, people respect your journey. You're surely going to go through a hell lot of things to get here that no one will ever know about. But i need you to let go of all the ghosts that haunt you or they will haunt you forever. Please set yourself free.

So here's me letting go of the self doubt, cherishing my life, celebrating myself, taking my power back, doing what i do best- creating content, a reel that captures the essence of my side of the story 💕 because 2016 Aditi is proud of 2023 Quirky 🥹

Caption : normalising normal bodies 🙂 i was 11 when i first heard a distasteful comment about my body by a grown up who i considered family, it was the first deep cut on my self worth and similar comments from society, friends and social media on an everyday basis have become a part of my skin. years have passed but the cycle continues.. today on 8.03.24 i’ve decided to show you my raw & unfiltered self which truly isn’t a brave thing to do and i’m not expecting any medals here. THIS is what a woman’s body looks like, there are millions like me, millions- who have been conditioned from a very impressionable age to carry SHAME through what are supposed to be the most beautiful & empowering years of a woman’s life. We’ve wasted so much time with that mirror in an effort to hide our bodyrolls & counting each pore & acne mark, haven’t we? and when you FINALLY felt like you cracked the code, of how to conceal everything the world taught you to hate about yourself, suddenly there’s a section of society who’s going to call you out for being “fake” because you don’t chose to put your “flaws” on display, you’re SHAMED for FEELING SHAMEFUL of your own body. What a vicious cycle 🔄 I’ve always taken pride in making my content as real as possible but i’m a human first, with feelings, flaws & childhood patterns that i can’t break out of overnight. I took my own sweet little time to open up about my struggles with body positivity because i DO NOT feel positive about my body all the time, and guess what? NO ONE DOES. My beautiful #QuirkySquad you have given me wings to fly, and strength to be so authentic that I don’t care about being judged for my body, my diet, my health and most importantly, being shamed for no sensible reason. Listen to me, take as much time as you want to become comfortable with whatever it is that you have going on with your body. Don’t let society pressurise you into becoming something you’re not even ready for. There is nothing wrong with our bodies, we change what affects our health and we accept what we can’t change.
