My Guru.. My Idol.. My Everything… 💜🙏
Lata Didi’s voice has been a part of me since I was 2. Every single day for years, my mornings started with her songs. I’ve studied her, worshipped her, breathed her music… She may not be here, but I still feel her around.
I must be probably 9/10 and was performing in a show when I found out she was listening to me from another room. After my song, I got to meet her. I just did a full pranam, put my forehead on her divine feet in a complete awe. I clearly remember those 3 questions. She smiled so sweetly and asked, “Tuzya wenya kon ghalta ga?” I somehow managed to say, “Baba.” She laughed, “He bagh, mazya pan don wenya ahet.” Then she asked, “Konacha abhyas kartes?” I said, “Tumcha” she smiled again and asked about my guruji and I told her I was learning from my first teacher “Pratibha tai Karnik”. That moment is everything to me.
Listening to her, studying her is a riyaz itself. Her harkats, her perfectttt pitch, but more than that—her expression! Not made up, very honest !! She never sang to prove anything, she just sang— and that’s where the magic was.
Getting emotional today. Missing you so much, Didi. 💜🙏 Her songs now sound different and unreal and even more magical after she left us.
One word – THANK YOU for existing and being there in this era. So we could experience your magic.
