Antonique Smith Instagram – On this #MLK Day, I want to remind us that Dr. King undoubtedly led the foundation for the civil rights and environmental justice movements, which to me are one. And like he said to 25,000 sanitation workers in Memphis, who were protesting for safer working conditions, higher wages, and union recognition, on March 28, 1968, “We’ve got to give ourselves to this struggle until the end.”
This rings truer for me today than ever before.
We must remain committed to the work of cleaning and detoxifying our air, waters, soils, and communities who are suffering at the hands of chemical and oil and gas companies.
We must ensure that all people, no matter their background, have the right to be in safe, nontoxic environments. Let the work continue.
I dream of a world of healthy, happy people. 🙏🏽
