this festival of lights – my gratitude for the food on my table, the roof above my head, and the loved ones around me has been greater than ever before. in light of the atrocities that have been occurring in the world, it feels like an immense privilege to be afforded these luxuries.
as a hindu and a second-generation immigrant, i often struggle with finding spaces in america where i can openly embrace my culture and ancestry – and so when i find the opportunity, i am thankful and deeply grateful to celebrate this holiday amongst people i love and admire in every way.
