Carmen Carrera Instagram – These women carried trans visibility on their backs for so many years in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. We didn’t just go from Marsha P. Johnson & Sylvia Rivera straight to Laverne Cox. These beauties were exploited in so many ways, but always stood true to the accurate representation of who they are. Thankfully, I’m glad that I was the last trans woman to be exploited & questioned in the media like this. Grateful for all the major strides our community has made to help humanize our stories and for that, now, it’s a totally different landscape. What has always been an inspiration for me is the way these women dealt with all of the uncomfortable questions straight up and with no fear.
