Charlotte Hawkins Instagram – The grand reveal of my trainer cake! As my husband Mark is running the London Marathon for @mndassoc I wanted to do my bit for a fundraising event… and had a bit of a marathon cake-making session inspired by one of his trainers! 👟 I watched a lot of YouTube videos in preparation, having never done this before – but to be honest I’m not sure I’d recommend undertaking it unless you have a spare 12 hours or so 🤣 but here is my method just in case! Not quite ‘Is it Cake’ level but at least it tasted good!!
I put this on my stories as I was creating it – a big thanks for all the support, it got me through it!!
• the inspiration
• an awful lot of cake mix
• 4 cakes and the templates – ended up needing 6 cakes!
• Sooo much buttercream….
• Bit of a pit-stop along the way 🤣
• taking shape but it looks more like a clog at this stage!
• Sticking it all together with jam and buttercream, not the prettiest but it does the job
• Resorting to raiding Ella-Rose’s play-doh box for some modelling tools – a bit of a wash and they worked a treat! 😂
• an awful lot of fondant needed
• starting the process of sticking it on
• the professionals have what’s called a ‘texture mat’ – I have a cheese grater…
• templating the tricky sections
• shaping it into the finished article – don’t forget to thread those laces!!
