Cristina Scabbia Instagram – “Sleepless Empire”
To celebrate the release of Lacuna Coil’s new album, “Sleepless Empire,” I wanted to create a commemorative pendant, transforming the album cover’s symbol into a piece of jewelry.
The process was challenging, as the beautiful design created by the talented Roberto Toderico (@todericoart) and Marco Coti Zelati is, of course, two-dimensional.
The skull is, in fact, composed of two human skulls and, centrally, a crow’s skull. The lateral orbits of the human skulls form the crow’s orbits, and at the rear, the three coalesce into a fusion of bones, reminiscent of the monstrous effects in John Carpenter’s film, “The Thing.”
The pendant was exclusively crafted in five pieces, each featuring the respective Gothic initial of a band member.
I am immensely grateful to Lacuna Coil for including me in this project, and especially to Maki, with whom I collaborated closely to realize every detail of this piece.
Lacuna Coil’s success beyond national borders is a source of great Italian pride.
