Gemma Atkinson Instagram – Long before, during and after becoming a mum fitness was and is part of my daily routine. That’s why to me now, it’s easy and doesn’t require discipline or even motivation. I don’t believe anyone is motivated every single minute of every single day. The secret is though, you don’t have to be when you have training as a habit.
To anyone starting out please remember you only need to be disciplined for the first 2 to 3 wks. Thats when it’s tough! Really tough in some cases. Creating a new routine for yourself and prioritising that time for yourself and forming those new habits (at first) is challenging but you have to push through those weeks. You have to have discipline at that time. Over time, in as little as 3 weeks it becomes your new normal, and just like brushing your teeth is just something you do daily, so is your workout. It’s a none negotiable daily habit that you do because prioritising your future self is an investment your mind and body will thank you for. I read recently that age 30 to 50 are “crucial decades” when it comes to not just longevity but quality of life. We should be trying to build as much muscle as possible. Something for years women were encouraged not to do. Things are shifting and there’s an army of us who now realise it’s no longer about how we look but how we perform that counts. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve had “she’s so manly” “did she used to be a bloke? 🙄
Meanwhile, I’m building a body that’ll help see me through to older age. You know my Grandma was active her whole life. She fell and broke her hip in her 70s and we all thought that was it. The beginning of the end. Within a year she was back to “pre fall function” living back in her home pottering about to the age of almost 90. We were told her having strong skeletal muscle played a massive part in her recovery. She was also from Scotland so she had that strong Scottish grit too! But, that’s always stuck with me whenever I’ve been told to do less strength training. Why the hell would I when it can literally help save my life? Keep going on your new habits. Especially the ones that will improve your health, moods, focus & quality of life.
