The fight for freedom, equality and specially women is a global fight. From Iran and Afghanistan all the way to United States of America where women might loose their right for abortion and their bodies… women’s body has been a battleground for centuries all around this world where weak people show off their power on it. Hand in hand with men and women together we will win this fight against ignorance. It does not matter « when » as long as we walk on this path every single day of our lives. Long live woman life and freedom.

Ne abbiamo parlato con la scrittrice Azar Nafisi e il regista Eran Riklis a Roma, dopo la proiezione privata di Leggere Lolita a Teheran per l’autrice del libro da cui è tratto, il racconto di un club di lettura per giovani donne alle prese con la Repubblica islamica dell’Iran negli Anni ottanta e novanta. Sono passati 21 anni dalla pubblicazione del longseller (edito da Adelphi) di Nafisi, ma la sua storia è tanto più attuale oggi che la sua eroina finisce spesso all’indice. E non solo in Iran. C’è stato un momento molto emozionante, alla fine dell’intervista, quando Nafisi ha mostrato le due foto del 1997 scattate nella sua casa di Teheran con le sue studentesse del cuore, prima di lasciare l’Iran per gli Usa. In una hanno il velo, nell’altra no. Nafisi non può renderla pubblica, perché potrebbe causare danni a quelle ragazze, ormai donne, o alle loro famiglie. I’ve been a huge admirer of Golshifteh since we first worked together in 2012 on Atiq Rahimi’s devastating film, ‘The Patience Stone’. It’s been a great joy to have the chance to collaborate once again on these shows. Golshifteh brings a deep emotionality and insight to all her work, and working on something together is always a thrill.
