When I foundt out that Joaquina was being honored, I couldn’t refuse the invite. I wanted to see my beautiful sister sit on her rightful throne amongst the stars and share a few words on her behalf.
I think of Joaquina in so many ways. She is a mother most mother’s dream of being. She is the friend most friend’s dream of having. And I can speak most selfishly for myself. She is the metronome most artists wish God had created for them. I am blessed that on Joaquina’s tongue I hear my ancestors, I hear my future, I hear myself.
I’ve been honored to work with this rocketing star and can’t wait to build some sandcastles together again. You deserve ALL the flowers and more.
Congrats to fellow honorees @gregnobile and @rachelbrosnahan as well! Your words truly touched my heart and I am thankful for the stories you both tell.
