Ruth Ellis’ execution was a grave miscarriage of justice, to say the least. New evidence has emerged since the last time her case was examined, so this is the first time her trial has been shown on screen in depth and with accuracy (our scripts for the trial scenes were taken directly from the court transcripts). This is also the first time the fuller scope of Ruth’s character and identity have been examined – as the hopeful, diligent, accomplished and bright woman that she was, as well as the context of all that she was put through – so I feel really proud of this project and to be a part of revising our perception and understanding of her and her case.
