Omg I made it in time for a Monday post!! It’s such a small thing but it’s actually a pretty big deal for me to be able to start doing these again.
Have been thinking about the relationships between tolerance and intolerance, compassion and accountability, peace and justice, how the desire for one sometimes negates the ability to achieve the other and how this balance(?) looks like in practice.
Tolerance/intolerance has definitely been on my mind A LOT lately given the absolute horror that has been happening and I’ve found this to be really grounding.
“Tolerance Is Not a Moral Precept – it is a peace treaty. It is a contract of cooperation, or at least, of non-interference. […] only extends to those willing to abide by it’s terms. It is an agreement to live in peace, not an agreement to be peaceful no matter the conduct of others.

I get that compassion and love are the guiding lights, but I think I’m working at being more aware of how they are weaponised to coax us out of our safety and dignity, and to overlook the safety and dignity of others in the name of “peace”. Peace without justice is no peace at all.
