After an initial audition for the third season of @thewhitelotus—for which White is the sole creator, director, and writer—Hook’s first callback was surprisingly chill. “It was so casual, as if we were out getting lunch or something,” she explains. Just the next day, she got the part, and there’s no doubt she was perfect for the role of Piper. They’re both Southern girls, after all. After growing up in the church in real life, Hook had her first run-in with Buddhism in college. “I was required to read an Eckhart Tolle book […] and I remember going home and being like, ‘Guys, Buddhism is the way.’ My mom was like, ‘But what about Jesus?’ She was freaking out, and it’s just funny because, when I read the script with Piper, I felt like I was reading about my younger self, my past self,” she says. Explaining that she “had a pretty intense spiritual awakening not even a month before [she] got the audition,” Hook experienced a complete 180 in both her personal and professional life. The character she played just before The White Lotus was “a blonde bombshell in six-inch platform heels”—Caroline Merteuil in @primevideo’s @cruelintentionsofficial. It’s clear the actress has already made a name for herself, so what’s next?
